In the Fall of 2021, myself and Cynthia Fernandez created this simple digital video game prototype for an Educational Game Design course through Texas A&M University. This game is incomplete , as it was part of a game pitch. The game prototype focuses on the fifth grade math concepts of fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. These objectives align with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards. The objective was for students to be able to convert fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals.
This game uses branching scenarios that rely on players choices. Players make choices about the quantity and price of different items. Their choices effect their budget and Grandma's health.
The intended end to this game would show players a summary of their efforts to save grandma and stay within their budget. This could be used by teachers to assess learners performance.
